Lexapro and pregnancy?

Help! My husband and I are about trying but I am afraid that I have to get off my lexapro for anxiety first. I would rather not be on it while I am pregnant, but I also heard my stress from not being on the medicine can be even more harmful to the baby than if I were on lexapro. Thoughts?

My psychiatrist says stress is equally as harmful- so he's changed some of my medications around. He took me off of lexapro, but I actually took that for my OCD which be have figured out stems from my anxiety disorder. So he prescribed non-narcotics for my anxiety and 1 narcotic in case the non-narcotics don't work. As a nurse I have seen multiple babies born perfectly healthy to patients who were on many medications. Baby dust to you ✨✨✨✨ don't be stressed

I had a friend on lexapro and lamictal her whole pregnancy and her baby was perfectly happy and healthy.

Thank you so much everyone! We are actually meeting a doctor tomorrow to discuss the medicine situation as my husband is also on some meds and didn't know if it would effect his sperm or not. On that note, I am 2 days late and kind of freaking out! In a  good way though :) testing tonight

I'm on Lexapro and I'm 10 weeks today. My doctor is slowly taking me down from 20mg to 10mg, but I'll stay on 10mg for my entire pregnancy. I'm also on Klonopin, which I'm weening down slowly as well, from 2mg a day to 0.5mg a day. both meds should ween verrrrrrrrry slowly or you could have seizures and panic attacks and high blood pressure. If I went off of them completely I would be a mess. I wouldn't be able to be pregnant. I wouldn't be able to be a mom. I would just be a total mess, and my doctor thinks the baby will be okay. ️ I hope that helps 😊

Just consult with your doctor about what medications you are currently taking. If Lexapro is something you're unsure about, maybe there is another drug you can try.

My doc told me once pregnant I should switch to celyxa but she also said that it's a class c drug it's your choice to stay on it

My dr put me on celexa when she knew I was ttc. Talk with your dr, but sometimes the benefits outweigh the risk. My friend is onlexapro and 8 wks pregnant. Her dr has advised her to stay on it.

If you do decide to come off, don't freak out! The side effects of coming off are terrible. But once you are off you may find your anxiety to be more manageable. Ween yourself off really slowly. 
​Talk to your doctor, I have heard there is safe antidepressant but I forgot the name.
​I chose to come off of my anxiety meds (after trying zoloft, lexapro, klonapin, Xanax and trazadone). I chose to go to an endroconologist who found hormonal imbalances and thyroid issues. It didn't take away my anxiety but has sure helped me deal with just anxiety!
​Just ask a lot of questions and do some research!

You need to speak to your doctor and get his or her opinion. If it's not safe for a baby while pregnant then they can put you on one that is.
