Would you take antidepressants during pregnancy if you needed to?

Comment your experience please!  I'm ttc with #1 but cannot go without my antidepressants as my depression gets horrible.  Need some reassurance that im not a bad mom already!

Talk to your dr... they can help you find the safest way and monitor your meds.  And absolutely do not stop your meds without involving  your dr... that's not safe Ever regardless of pregnancy. For those who are saying no to taking medications are not educated enough to know that depression is something that needs to be treated... it's not something you can shut off because you become pregnant... it's a condition that can become worse when you throw in the hormones that come along with pregnancy and the physical feelings (pregnancy can be so rough! You don't control your body... your baby does lol... seriously from what you can eat, how you poop, how much you sleep, headaches,  heartburn, back pain, ect... it can be unpleasant... but thankfully has an amazing reward) Anyway I think it's really important to find a dr that you really trust. Someone who you feel comfortable talking to...With close monitoring they will help care for you and your growing little bean... good luck and take care?

And I'm not saying that everyone on antidepressants can't be off them during pregnancy... I'm saying that a dr needs to be involved to make sure that it is infact the best/safest option... everyone is different... from dose, personality, history, pregnancy, ect

I have a SLEW of mental health problems (bi-polar, major depression, PTSD & anxiety). Before I decided to TTC, I worked with my psych to see what would be unhealthy for the baby, and what I could stay on.

​It's hard, but I managed to wean myself off of all of my class C & D meds, leaving just the class B Wellbutrin. 
​I see him every two weeks so he can monitor how I'm doing, and we can adjust if necessary. 
​
​Going off my meds was one of the most difficult things I've done, and some days are harder than others - but, it will be worth it to be a mommie.

I have depression and anxiety...I got off my meds before TTC and I'm now 16 weeks pregnant. It's a huge struggle! I until recently hadn't been able to connect or be happy about me pregnancy. I have anxiety attacks multiple times a day. When I see my doctor I'm going to ask about my options. I want and need to be happy again...

If you have spoken to your doctor about it you should be fine if you have a good doc then when you get pregnant you will have the information you need. Most cases you are better off with sticking to a routine that you already have

I'm on antidepressants and ttc. just don't take Zoloft because it's linked to birth defects such as cleft lip. then again most antidepressants are. but it's only a 4% chance or so. so nothing you can't get fixed.

I was a on lexapro with my second bub same as You can not come off them. Bub was fine and is a super happy 6 yr old too this day ?

I understand needing them... I was able to stop mine in college with a "natural alternative" which made me feel better physically and mentally than the pills did... As I never liked the pills and didn't like the stigma attached to them. But now I'm pregnant can't do that either! But so far I've been okay. But that doesn't mean you would be! Depression is very serious and very horrible.. But maybe some herbal teas or something could help if you want off them. I understand depression and anxiety isn't something you control like some people think. <3

I was on lexapro for anxiety.  As soon as I found out I was pregnant I went off of it!  I am having panic attacks here and there, but the other symptoms of pregnancy seem to be masking the little panos attacks, not so much for the major ones.  When they come on I just quickly get out of that situation and try to lie down to calm myself down as I've been known to pass out if I cannot control them.  Talk to your doctor if you absolutely don't think you can go off of your antidepressant and I'm sure between you and your doctor you can find something safe to take!
