Do you think prostitution should be legal?

This has already been a topic and it too has created some hostile disagreements. But anyway....prostitution in my opinion should be legalized. It's the oldest running profession and it's not going anywhere any time soon. I'd rather it be legal, and given safer rules/restrictions then to keep paying out of my tax dollars for each woman who is arrested for prostitition and each man who is arrested for buying into prostitition. If this would become an actual job, then those woman should also be paying taxes on the money they earn. These woman should also be obligated, if this is the profession they choose, to be tested regularly for STDs, just like they do in the porn industry. I don't think that if it was legalized the murder/rape rates would increase. I think if they were given security/body guards or whatever it would be safer, and if a little time and effort was put into it, they could find safer ways.

Prostitution (brothels not street walking) is legal in Australia. There are safe working conditions and strict government and licence guidelines.

That's saying sequal immorality is acceptable. Traditionally, sex was seen as something between a husband and wife which in changing times is clearly an outdated opinion. But in a time where this opinion was a majority prostitution was a small minority. In today's age sleeping with a prostitute/ escorts is a life experience and quite common. If we legalitarian it surely we are saying it is acceptable/ encouraging it. However,  I do agree with your point about safety. When abortion was illegal people did it anyway and died as a result of backstreet abortions.
