High risk?

Are we (pregnant after 35) considered high risk because of our age? What tests are you being required or advised to take?

Not high risk.  I am 38, pregnant with baby #2 (I have a 3 year old born 10 days after I turned 35 so I was treated as "advanced maternal age" at 34, which sucked!), and I was offered and took them up on a chromosomal blood test that analyzed the baby for birth defects and gender.  My bf was worried, due to me being 3 years older, that we would be at a higher risk for birth defects and our geneticist told us of all the things that go wrong, just a small percentage is due to age and there's only a tiny jump each year in occurrences of them.  Mazel tov--I don't think I had many friends who had babies before 35 and they all have healthy kids!

I asked my doctor this very question last week and she said that advanced maternal age does not mean high risk.  It has more to do with the mother's health and/or previous complications.  They do offer more testing over age 35, since the risk of chromosomal abnormalities rises with age.

It is true we are considered high risk because of age!  I am in this age group and when I Have this my last I  will be 37.  I was also put in high risk because I had bleedinf early on which they called possible threat of miscarriage and I had to be put on progestorne vagal suppsrtories well past 12 weeks as my body was not producing enough for me an baby!  Some even called it the stay prego meds.  I also had to undergo several times of bloodwork.  I have an great OB she was on top of it all and also does ultrasound for every visit which made me feel better.  Although she didn't suggest it I requested the materniti 21 testing which is in depth blood work to show if my baby had and handicaps,  that test is coming up but will make me feel better.  I don't plan to terminate either way just want to be prepared.

You are advanced maternal age. Not high risk. You could be considered high risk if you develop other issues like gestational diabetes etc. Otherwise you will just be offered skit more additional tests than women your jr

Everyone does testing for gestational diabetes everyone does 20 weeks anatomy scan I also believe everyone does nucal scan of the babies neck as well. You will be offered advanced blood work for chromosomal issues and will be offered a cvs or an amniocentesis.

Hi 35 is not high risk I had my son at 37 and the only thing they was more thorough on was testing for chromosome abnormality.  I am now 43 and 11 weeks pregnant this is now classed as high risk because there is a bigger risk of miscarriage. I hope that helped.
