Setting marriage date

So my boyfriend claims he wants to get married and spend the rest of his life with me. He's in his last year of college. I want to get married so bad; I've been ready and he's very aware. But when I tried to set a date he tells me no because he didn't graduate yet and doesn't have a job. But I try to explain that he doesn't have to be situated to be engaged or set a date and get excited about marriage. Am I wrong?
