Period and Sex

My SO and I haven't actually had sex, but we do engage in sexual activities. Anyways, when I'm on my period, I still have a big sex drive. I never tell him when I'm on my period, but it can be very frustrating (I think for both of us) when I stop him from initiating something. Should I let him know when I'm on my period or just let him wait it out a few days?
