You can get pregnant if you have sex up to 5 days befor you ovulate and a day later after you stop ovulating. Everyone ovulates on day 14

Generally people ovulate days 13-17. If they are on a 28 day cycle. You can get pregnant up to 5 days before your ovulation day and possibly the day after. For lots of women that puts about a third of your cycle as the best time to get pregnant or the time you need to use protection the most, if you don't want a pregnancy. The best way to know when you ovulate is to track your temperature and symptoms and documenting on a chart.
