TTC without insurance

My husband and I are TTC #1. He recently started a new job which provides company paid insurance for him, and we just found out that for him to add me onto the insurance it will be $700/month. ?? who can even afford that?!!!

Anyway my question is how does it work when someone needs to make dr visits and of course eventually give birth if you don't have insurance? We are in that lovely middle class where we make too much for gov't assistance but boy enough to afford insurance.

I'm not dumb so I obviously realize that without help it will be very expensive to have a baby. But what I'm trying to figure out is, will drs bill you? Or am I going to have to pay $300 (or whatever it costs) per visit up front?

How should we plan for this?
