Any special features for women with pcos??

I have pcos, I've never really been "careful" even before I found out. I was devestated finding out I may never be able to have kids. My grandma worked at a fertility clinic and that is were I got check ups bc at the time I didn't have insurance well I do now and I went to a regular gyno and she told me my uterus was not enlarged so I was fine... They put me on birth control and I had my period for 3 months straight! I had had enough so I stopped taking it and stopped going back there bc they also wouldn't do an ultra sound like the one they did at the fertility clinic to find out why I was bleeding so much. They kept telling me the pill will win. My grandma is now retired, I got prescribed metformin but at the time I was young an stupid and didn't take it like the doc told me I still have it and I was thinking about starting up bc of all the success story's I keep reading on here. But if my gyno won't even accept that I was diagnosed with this how will I get a prescription for it again? I don't know what to do..
