Are you a member of the U.S. Armed forces?

Question

I'm in college now but am curious about possibly joining the Navy when I graduate.  Wondering if any other woman on this app served in any branch of the military. I took a couple years off after high school so I'm older than most college students.  I was wondering if it's too old to join when I'm 24/25?  Everyone I know either has done ROTC at school, went directly into the military's after high school, or went to a military school. What do you think? What has your experience been? Should I do it?

I joined active duty Air Force right out of high school and served active for 7.5 years. I loved who it allowed me to become. It's ups and downs shaped me in a way that my youth wasn't able to. It gave me stability, security and confidence. And a solid paycheck is always something to be thankful for. I travelled to Korea, where I lived for a year and then to Italy where I was stationed for a little over 2 years. After that I was sent back stateside for the remainder of my enlistment. I wouldn't give up those memories and experiences for anything. I will always hope my future kids have the inkling to join the military :-) I don't think you're too old at all. You would probably be one of the oldest in basic training but I don't think you would be turned away for your age. Do it!!

You should be able to in as an officer. I was I'm the army reserves. If I can go back I would have gone active. You get more benefits that way. I highly recommend ACTIVE. Also each branch may have different pros and cons. I would suggest once your are ready take your asvap (or asvab, I forget) and go speak to a recruiter to find out more details and what they can offer you job wise and benefit wise.

I loved it, like I said if I can change one thing I would nor have joined the reserves. I got screwed out of many jobs because of it.

Do ROTC so you can be an officer. You will get your college paid for, and make A LOT more money than being enlisted. I hear the Air Force is female friendly. I was in the Army, and I was constantly sexually harassed and sexually assaulted once when I was deployed... So I don't think I'd recommend the army to females...

I was in the USCG for 4 years. It was an amazing experience and also paid for my Bach degree after I got out. I made a bunch of good friends and also met my husband at my first duty station, so obvi I wouldn't change my decision for the world! Go for it!!

I was in the Navy for 6 awesome years, loved it wouldn't change it for the world !! If you have a bachelors degree your eligible for an officers program, but there's nothing wrong with enlisted either!
