Boyfriend trouble

Okay so my bf and I have been together almost 2 years and I want to get our own place and maybe even get a puppy and he is like completely against it, he gets mad at me everytime I bring it up, but he and his ex had an apartment and they got a dog, so am I missing something here? Am I overreacting?
