Do you believe in marriage? Why or why not?

I believe in marriage because it's a promise you make to that person that you will forever be there for them through thick and thin. You will love them forever unconditionally. You will resolve issues together and tackle any problem that may arise hand in hand. It isn't taken as seriously these days with so many people divorcing for petty things (not saying many dont also have legitamate reasons) but thinking twice before choosing to marry someone would make life so much easier.

I do and even tho my marriage failed I do hope one day to find someone that believes in marriage as much as I do

No, because at this point, unless you do it through a purely religious ceremony, it's just the government validating my relationship. The fact that I can go out and try to get married and the gov't can deny me of that is proof enough for me.

I believe in marriage in terms of loving someone so much that you want to show them that you plan to spend the rest of your life growing & learning together. I believe that everyone should be allowed to marry regardless of whether the majority of society likes it. I also believe it's ridiculous that marriage can only be done through religious ceremony. Making people recite religious vows when it's not their beliefs takes away from the real reasons for their union. You can be devoted to someone without a specific religious belief.

I don't need a piece of paper to validate my relationship. It isn't going to change how I feel about my SO. It won't change how we act with each other. My SO and I have decided if we ever feel the need to have a ceremony, we will have his gay best friend lead a private ceremony for us in the forest or by the ocean.

Not until every consenting adult can marry. While it should be a right to be able to marry if you choose,  at the moment it's just another privilege that the majority takes for granted.

I don't particularly care about the "piece of paper" but I believe in having one day where me and my partner celebrate our love with all our friends and family!
