Do you believe that getting your partners name tattooed on you, or matching tattoos is a bad idea?

Question

Me and my SO are soon to be married, and we're both considering getting MATCHING tattoos. No names. Everyone around us is saying its such a bad idea, and that we should really reconsider.

We really don't care what our close friends, nor family has to say.. we want to do this for ourselves and make is special for us.

We plan on getting 2 tattoos.

1. Roman numerals (3 sets)
2.  A matching tattoo that has a meaning to us.

My husband got our wedding date in Roman numerals in his ring finger and I got mine in June..a year after we got married..just because I couldn't think of wear. I love my tattoo significance..I know we will always be together but even if we aren't, he was a HUGE part of my life..my first love, my childhood sweetheart...i am proud of our tattoos.

My husband I have matching spirit animal tattoos. Spirit bears actually...two bear claws. Mine are on my foot and are kind of more girly and his are on his forearm more tribal and masculine. Both black and red since we got them on b-day. I would never get a name....but there is a lot of different stuff out there that you could do :-)

I think matching tattoos would be okay and not apply to name curse they associate with it.. I'm planning on getting his name though

My husband and I have each other's initials on our ring fingers. Our jobs make it difficult to wear rings, even wedding rings, so our "wedding rings" are our tattoos. I always said I would never get a man's name (or initials) tattooed on my body but when you know you are who you are supposed to be with than it doesn't matter anymore. And just a side note, we both have been married before and had ugly divorces so it isn't like we are "young and dumb" it was carefully thought out and planned :-)

I guess my question would be are you a tattoo person? What I mean is, it seems like many of the posters here are into tattoos. Correct me if I'm wrong though. I have several tattoos myself, so I, like many in the forum, don't see a problem with a matching tat. However, I don't know if I'd recommend this as your first tattoo. Tattoos can be difficult to adjust to because they are so permanent. I had difficulty adjusting to mine even though I have more than one. Lol. Nevertheless people are worried because then what happens if you break up? Well if you like tattoos you can always just cover it up. But if you're not really into the culture, you may not want to and I hear removal is no fun. Just trying to give you a different perspective.

I wouldn't change my decision, ever. He's been the biggest part of my life. We got these when we moved into our house together, tattoo / house warming party.

My SO and I have matching 4 leaf clovers but we also got them as a group tat with 2 of our friends. If it means something to both of you I would go for it but thats just me.
