Losing mucus plug at 20 weeks? (TMI)

Question

I went to the bathroom and when I wiped there was a decent sized blob. It looked mostly clear but I'm pretty positive it was my mucus plus. I'm so scared. What should I do? Is this a bad thing?

I don't know what the plug looks like when you lose it, but I'd call your dr or midwife about this just to have it checked out. I know I get a lot lf CM on and off since being pregnant and it could be just that, but I'd always get your concerns checked to safe.

My doctor suggested I go to the hospital and they told me I have low amniotic fluid (it might be because my mucus plug passed and I leaked some fluid) and that I have a threatened miscarriage. I'm not entirely what the effects of low amniotic fluid are but I'm terrified. I've also been put on pelvic rest.

I had low amniotic fluid with my first. I had to go on bed rest in the hospital and be monitored. You have four quadrants they measure for fluid. Drink lots of water to get baby peeing. That will help and stay off your feet. Prayers!

Sometimes it can be clear or tinged with blood, which is either bright red or brownish. It can be either thick, or long and stringy with a sticky consistency. The mucous plug can come away together and all at once or, as one continuous piece or over a few days as separate clumps. There is no smell or odour to the mucous plug; it just doesn’t look that great. I hope this helps. If you really think it's your mucus plug call your midwife because without it your baby is at risk of bacterial infection
