Scared to go to the gyno?

I have never been to one and I'm putting off making an appointment. I know I should go regularly but I just can't bring myself to go. I'm not even sure what to say when I call. Any tips?

There's nothing scary or different about seeing an OB/GYN. They're just like your regular doctor, just with more information about your reproductive health.

Me and my mom feel the same way about the subject. She has a friend that will wear a hat and sunglasses into the gyno and get out ASAP. Haha. I'm sure they get all sorts of calls, but that's their job. It's not a joyous experience, and it's awkward, but it's for your health, and your future babies health. Everyone has to go, just be the hat lady! ??

It can be intimidating, but trust me, it's not as bad as it's made out to be. the doctors and nurses will do everything they can to put you at ease, and it's really just like any other checkup. There is no question that will be judged, so PLEASE don't be afraid or embarrassed to ask ANYTHING. When it comes to your body, Its best if you and your doctor are able to talk freely and have open communication so they know what's best for you, and you don't have any hidden worries or concerns. I started going when I turned 18 for yearly checkups. It's really not so bad. Once you've gone the first time you'll know what to expect. Don't get me wrong...first time..TOTALLY awkward. Lol but it gets better, I promise!

I was terrified too, for years! (The doctor in general makes me nervous) However, after I went for the first time the relief was awesome. Not only did I feel relief for my health, but I was relieved that it was NOTHING like I feared it would be. Quick, painless, and so important! Best of luck, don't be scared! ?

What exactly are you scared about? Is it the awkwardness or is it because you don't know what they will do? There is nothing to be scared of. It doesn't hurt at all its a little uncomfortable and awkward. If you have questions about what will happen let us know I'm sure no one would mind answering.

It shouldn't be a scary experience. Call and make an appointment. If they have a nurse practitioner you can see make an appointment with them. Sometimes they have more time to spend with you and can really explain everything to make you feel better about it. Either way just let them know in the appointment that you are really nervous about it so they can take their time and try to help you through it.
