My experience with the Mirena IUD

I got it just after lunch on a Tuesday. I biked to the appointment and back to work afterwards. I noticed strong new cramps for three days afterwards, gradually tapering off. I do sometimes feel these cramps still a few words after getting the IUD, but they don't bother me. They feel different than cramps that I have had before. I have had no noticible spotting, but some changes in cervical mucus texture. The insertion was an office procedure that took 45 min total including talking and explanation. I got it in San Francisco (free with my health insurance) and I am now a big fan of One Medical. Two days after getting the iud, I had sex with my boyfriend and it helped with the cramps. We used a condom because the doctor told me to use alternate both control for seven days ayer insertion. The insertion itself was uncomfortable but not terrible. Do remember to take ibuprofen beforehand like the doctors office tells you to, because that makes it more comfortable.
