How many years until we have a qualified female candidate?

I love the idea of a woman in office, but not for the sake of it. If we elect a woman I want her to be the best person for the job, otherwise we're just setting her up for failure like the Republican party did to Sarah Palin. Because like her or not, there are few that would argue she was thrust into the National stage way too early, and as a result her opponents took every opportunity to discredit her due to her lack of experience on a national and global spectrum.
