If one wants a child but the other doesn't, can the relationship still work?

My boyfriend really wants to have a child (in the future), however I don't; I fear for my physical, mental and emotional health. We've talked about a surrogate however, we'd have to find someone we trust and I bet that would be quite expensive...

My husband isn't 100% thrilled with the idea of fatherhood. He's always been against it... I married him anyway because at 19 I wasn't thinking about having kids yet. Now at 25 I'm dying for a baby... Our lives are almost at the point where we could have one and be happy (afford the kid and all the goes with it) he's at about 75% on board with it. He worries about the kid and he isn't even a dad yet! I can't wait to have a kid with him. It can work, but you both need to be on the same page.

To tell you the truth, I'd only have a child for his sake, I have thousands of plans, goals and dreams and a child has never really been in or any of them.

I think it depends on how set both of you are in your choices. If you guenuinely think that this isn't bc you are young but you just don't think motherhood is something you want then it might be best to find someone who wants the same things.
