Long distance relationship in college - is it worth it?

Is it possible to have a successful one or is it doomed from the start?

Some tips!

1.) Communication and trust!! Don't be afraid to share how you feel...how much you miss him...or anything else...also, if these two factors aren't established on both ends, then the relationship may have some strains 
2.) Pick a show to watch together on Netflix! We would set times that worked for both of us and committed to How I Met Your Mother and it was awesome
3.) Send little gifts! I remember us sending each other little things that reminded us of one another...this doesn't have to be expensive- Even a hand written letter 
4.) Send pictures! Not talking about nudes but just pictures of what your doing or your pretty faces! We snap chatted back in the day of the funniest things! 
5.) Play games!! We would play words with friends and draw something and to this day we still do - I know not everyone has an iphone but there are tons of interactive games for all phones! 
6.) Set a goal together (when you're going to reunite next, any future plans, etc.)

I live in NY and my boyfriend lives in GA. We started dating at the end of my senior year, and he's stuck with me through thick and thin while I finish up my college courses. Our long distance relationship is definitely one of the hardest things I've ever been through. It's definitely not something to take lightly. Y'all have to be 100% committed to each other and actually want the relationship to succeed. It definitely had it's ups and downs, but in the end it's totally worth it.

I'm currently doing it and I only way able to last 4 months without just completely breaking down. My SO and I have a great relationship but distance causes so much strain on your relationship and we would argue for no reason simply because one of us had a bad day and the other one couldn't be there to comfort the other one completely due to distance. Sometimes words aren't enough. So I decided to take online classes for spring and move to him

My boyfriend have been together for almost 2 years now and he moved to college a little after we graduated and we are still got strong. We don't take the visits for granted. Distance can't ruin love. It's definitely workable.

My husband and I did it for about a year in a half. He was in college at Auburn University and I was in college in Delaware. He moved to Texas about six months before we got engaged. It is totally worth it. I am so glad that I coped with the loneliness, only seeing each other ever three to six months and the Skype dates. When I married him, it was all worth it ❤️ 
The only negative that came out was not knowing how to communicate well face-to-face. But we have learned how to do it through our newlywed class and mentors that we just graduated from ?

My husband and I had a long distance relationship for 2 1/2 years (he was a marine at the time and lived near base) we moved in together when he was medically discharged and we've now been married for a year. Wouldn't change anything for the world. I feel like we have a stronger relationship than any of our friends because we had to want each other and we had to fight for our relationship.

I'm a sophomore in college and I've been doing it with my boyfriend. We went to high school together and now he just works and I'm 3 hours away at school. It's honestly one of the hardest things I've ever had to do in my life, but it's worth it. We fight a lot and the fights are bad, but when we get to see each other it's like everything bad just disappeared. Relationships are hard, if both of you are willing to make it work it will.

It's really extremely hard and unless is very temporary, it's most likely going to end. At that age you grow and learn so much in college and it's hard to grow together when you're long distance. People grow apart in relationships when they are together, let alone apart. I know of a lot of long distance relationships that have worked when both are out of college and a little older. That time in your life is hard because everything changes, even if you don't realize it while it's happening. Obviously, if you love each other then try it out but just understand it's going to strain the relationship and you don't want to let your college experience slip by.
