How often do you get your period with an IUD?

I was on Mirena. I had light periods and spotting for the first 10 months then nothing for 3 yrars. I believe the copper t still allows periods.

Answer

It depends on the IUD type. With the hormonal iud (Mirana) I went from getting it every month for the first 6 months to not having it for 10 months straight. That's normal for the hormonal IUD but with the copper IUD I get my period every month and it's heavier. I prefer the copper because I don't like hormones but different strokes! My bf & I both loved the 10 months period free months though!!! ? The hormonal IUD is 1% more effective as well.
