Hoping to give a Christmas Gift?? Help

My husband and I have been trying for 4 months and have miscarried twice. I have my body a rest to have a normal period after the last MC and now we are currently trying. Getting pregnant isn't the problem, staying pregnant is. I miscarried both times about a week and half later so if I make til Xmas we will be so excited! I have already confirmed we are both healthy and able to have another child.. Anyway, I will be late Dec 6th and I am thinking that I want to keep the results, if positive, to myself and as his last gift give him the pregnancy test wrapped in a box (with the cap on for those who think it'd be gross) I told my friend this and she said that's a awful idea and that I should keep him in the loop as soon as I know... Thoughts?
