Who would you blame?

Question

A 14 year old boy in MA raped n murdered a teacher from his high school. The media blames his parents an their divorce an his "hard life" to almost justify his crime. I'm sorry but at 14 you know right from wrong. There are plenty of people that have rough childhoods an they don't commit crimes like this. So what do you think? Should the parents be blamed for his actions? Or should he be charged as an adult an accept whatever punishment comes his way? I think he deserves to be in prison an treated like an adult.

My parents are divorced, and I have a hard time killing bugs because they crunch, so killing someone shouldn't be blamed on the fact that his parents are divorced. The blame always has to be put on someone or something else other than the person that did it. He raped and murdered the teacher because he has a sick mind, he should be tried as an adult. I don't have sympathy for him, he killed someone for no obvious reason.

It's that boys fault. 
My parents are divorced and I'd be livid if someone tried blaming my actions at 14 (18 now) on my parents. Unless there was bad stuff going on with the parents it's fully that boys fault. By bad stuff I'm talking about abuse.  Either abuse of the boy or abuse between the two adults.

He committed the crime, so he is to blame. It's that simple. Crimes committed because of a "harsh life" are usually robberies, selling drugs, basically immoral ways to make a living based on what they grew up around. Those are bad crimes, but they are often done out of perceived necessity, so you could rest partial blame on the people they grew up around. Rape and murder has no justification and no good reason. You can't blame anyone but the individual who committed the crime.

A 14 year old isn't an adult. The human brain doesn't fully mature until roughly 24 years old. That being said it would be the parents fault---firstly they are the guardians of that teen and should have been vigilant of that teens' symptoms; people don't just wake up raping and killing they show symptoms of abnormal behavior beforehand. You don't know how he was brought up in his home life; his parents couldve created this pathological teen. (Learned this in school; I'm not just pulling it out of my butt)

Seriously?  I could see blaming the divorce on MINOR behavior issues (such as goofing off in class when they normally don't, etc) which its still the kids fault... But I could understand that if he was upset about his parents divorce....
But this is just extreme.  This kid is mentally disturb and it's horrifying. The parents are definitely not to blame if the only negative things they have brought is a divorce.

I'd blame the kid his parents didn't commit those crimes.

I would however charge the parents with negligence for the fact that no one wakes up in the morning and thinks I'm gonna rape and kill someone today

If in America your parents have legal responsibility until the age of 18 they failed that kid and so did his school for not picking up on it.

This is a touchy one; mostly because of the age. On one side, yes, he's only 14, so maybe trying him as an adult would be a little..harsh. However, again, he is 14, by now he should obviously know that rape and murder are both wrong and illegal. Either way, blame should not be put onto the parents. If the juvenile was feeling impulses or having thoughts of this, he should have gotten help for himself. I believe that up to a certain age, everything in life is a choice and you're responsible for every choice you make, good or bad; right or wrong. That's my take on it.

I would say he is to blame. He carried out the act. However, parenting is also to blame. This certainly doesn't excuse the disgusting crime tho and he should have the same punishment any adult would.
