Clingy Boyfriend PLEASE HELP

I love my boyfriend a lot, but lately he's gotten kind of... Clingy..... At first it was super cute because he started doing little things to surprise me and got really flirty, (he usually isn't the kind of guy who gets all sappy). I kind of like this new side of him, but lately its been a little much. I went out for a 20 minute jog today and I literally came home to 10 text messages from him, asking why I haven't replied. I haven't responded yet because I've literally been with him all day and I just need a little me time to relax. And okay this may seem silly, but he always used to get me red roses whenever he got me flowers. Yesterday he got me a bouquet of white roses and like we've had this discussion before where white means "eternal love". I'm just a freshman in college and we've been dating for 4 months-- it just seems kind of intense. I feel like he could be the one, but I'm still young and not ready for that kind of commitment. I definitely want to stay with him, but there's been a huge shift in the dynamic of our relationship. This may sound conceded but I feel like I'm up on a pedestal and he's idolizing me or something. Like don't get me wrong, I love the attention, but I know its ultimately unhealthy for our relationship. I want us to be equals and have equal respect for each other. I know I need to talk to him, I just don't know what to say without making him upset/making it seem like I don't want him.
