Should mom's be over protective?

my mom was very overprotective and honestly some days i hate her so much for the things she wouldnt let me do, such as school&church trips in jr high&high school, because they were co-ed, because she was afraid i would turn out like her (pregnant at 14/prison/jail/drug addict) i was raised by my mamaw until age 12 and then i moved with my mom. and i learned from my moms mistakes and my mamaws guidance. her being over protective just made me more angry at her for making me miss so many wonderful opportunities. and now she is the same way with my little sis. by the way, i have been married 3 years, have a stable DRUG FREE/CRIME FREE environment for my beautiful 3 month old.

To an extent. Not too overprotective because the child could resent them and act out. Not too lenient because the child could get into really bad habits.

No. Too much & they can't adapt well as adults & are usually  a step behind everyone else in real world knowledge/survival skills.

To a point yes. I feel that my mom was too overprotective. I was never allowed to be a cheerleader because she thought it would make me a 'slut', couldn't hang out with my friends on weekdays, got mad when I went to church with my then boyfriend, etc.

I am very over protective! But my kids are wonderful they are very well behaved and all 3 have straight A's. I like to think it's because of that.
