IUD and Pregnant?

So I'm late for my period, but I have an IUD (Paragard) as birth control. I was wondering if there is anyone out there who has used this method and still gotten pregnant. I know there is a very tiny chance of getting pregnant, but have never met anyone to whom it has happened.

I used to work at an obgyn office and one of our patients did get pregnant when om an IUD. It actually came out in the placenta when her baby was born. This is VERY rare but is possible. If concerned, visit your obgyn. Good luck!

It depends if it's a hormonal iud, or the regular copper one. That's the one I have and I love it, but nothing about my periods changed. If you have the regular old-school iud and your period is late you could have a serious complication called an ectopic pregnancy, where a fertilized egg has implanted and is growing in one of your Fallopian tubes, this could have life-threatening consequences. I don't want to be scary, but it's something you should take seriously.

Agreed that an ectopic pregnancy can be very serious and you should definitely go to the doctor if you think anything is wrong. I JUST had my Paraguard removed on Wednesday after 5 years. I've always been very regular with only a day or two difference in my cycle length, but for some reason my last period (with my IUD) was 4 days late. All was fine, though!

I got pregnant on mirena. The device migrated out of place without me noticing.

On the iud it's normal to have an irregular period if you even get one at all. I didn't have a period on it for 2 years when I did get it it was like 3x a year maybe.
