My mom is throwing me a shower and it's going to be in a restaurant for about 35 dollars a person. You are right I live in NY and it is over priced and a bit out of control here! I am grateful for the shower as we need the help but it really gets out of hand in my opinion

Completely depends on location and scale of the shower. People in NYC or SF having showers outside someone's house at a restaurant or something will be at a completely different price point vs. smaller towns, an at home shower, etc. You really can't compare. As a New Yorker, I marvel at the thought of throwing almost any formal-ish gathering of a decent number of people for $400!

This post looks like it is pushing whatever you are encouraging people to click through to, though, so I won't worry too much about answers not being apples to apples. :)
