Telling children to believe in Santa ?

My husband and I won't be doing Santa in our house. Any gifts will be from mom and dad. We don't see a reason behind it. I figured it out at the age of 7. My husband at 8 and he felt lied to. Sorry but magic isn't real. There are other ways to enjoy the holiday without a lie about a fat man that breaks into your house.

I will be telling my kids all about Santa, however I grew up calling him Ded Moroz (Father Frost) in Russian. He would come not on Christmas Eve to bring presents but New Year's Eve. He's just like Santa, with the beard and red coat. I don't exactly remember when I realized he wasn't real, but I never had some ill conceived notion that my parents were liars or anything like that. I think it's great to give kids something magical to believe in, even if it is just for a few short years. That's what makes childhood fun.

As a kid I wasn't told to believe in Santa. I kinda dismiss the fact of there being a Santa anyways because I was so in tune as a child and I knew that my parents were buying presents for my siblings and I. I don't know. I was a weird child lool?

I won't be telling my son that Santa is real. I'll read him the stories and he can watch the movies but we will always tell him it's just a holiday thing and not real in any way.

why not? its fun for the kiddos plus they will find out soon enough santas not real and that mommy and daddy    had mini strokes trying to pull xmas together.

I wouldn't tell them to believe in Santa... But they would believe in him just like I did. Many children from different counties understand and know Santa. But I wouldn't force it I the child x

We'll be telling our kids that Santa is more of a feeling than a real person. We'll be telling them the stories behind Santa and that everyone has a different way of believing in him and that that's okay. We'll encourage them to see Santa as whatever they choose to see him as.

My husband and I aren't religious and both of us found out at around 11 that Santa wasn't real (I was still convinced my parents were elves for another year). But I have great memories of Christmas and Santa as a kid and I want our kids to have the same memories. I'm fine with however they choose to believe. :)
