What type of Birth Control??

Question

I'm going to be getting on or using birth control soon. But I just can't fathom having synthetic hormones put into my body. I've been on the pill before and it was fine but it was in high school and so long ago.

So my question. What kind has the least amount of hormones and the most effective?

And what are your opinions on the pill?  and the copper IUD? I've heard the copper IUD is only a spermicide. But some have said bc I haven't had kids they don't recommend them bc it's more long term, etc. I like the idea of it.

I have the paragard copper IUD. I have been on nuvaring, but because of my migraines it turns out I can't take estrogen. I did progestin only pills for a few years, but never felt too great with those either, and the blood clot risk freaks me out ( I smoke too, so it's even higher.) I guess in a way the Paragard basically is a form if spermicide- the copper make the uterus uninhabitable. 
With the copper iud, my period is different. I have a few days of spotting with sometimes pretty intense cramps and then a few days a really heavy bleeding. It's already starting to get a little more tame, though (had it for three months.) My doctor actually says I'm good for 12 years with it in, and I can get it taken out whenever I want to and your fertility is unaffected. 
But, there are many options out there for ya, and many women tolerate hormone based BC just fine. I would have loved to stick with the nuvaring, personally, if I didn't have side effects.

I say use Google!!! I loved mirena. I just researched the skyla. It seems to be a good option for women that have not had children. It is smaller and fewer hormones. The iud is long term in the sense that it can last up to 3 years (skyla) 5 years (mirena) and 10 years for the paragaurd. The first 3-6 months can be rough with an iud. You cramp and bleed. But for me it all stopped after 4 months. I would only spot a few times a year. Some women have their periods like normal, while others bleed more. My sister in law loves the implant birth control. I personally do not know people that like the depo shot. My friend loved nuva ring. The option is for you to sit down with your doctor and describe what you want out of your birth control and go over the risk with all the options you are considering. Good luck!!

All I needed to hear was one horror story about the IUD and I will never do it. Long story short, it moved and she didn't know she was 6 months pregnant and it was state law to abort no matter if she wanted to keep it. Anyway, I have the Nexplanon implant in my arm and I love it. Not too many hormones for me and safe if that .001% chance I got pregnant.
