Yes, he shouldn't have resisted but this cop could've used OTHER ways to take him down. Plus the cop had other racial altercations previous to the killing of Eric Garner. SOME form of displinary action should have been enforced.

How about the fact that they took him down, got him to the ground and released the hold from his neck? I'm so tired of hearing all of these ridiculous arguments every single time someone dies. When Michael Brown was killed, the argument back to that was that Darren Wilson should've used another form of defense to take him down. Now Eric Garner dies (accidentally, mind you) by being taken down in a choke hold, but of course the argument is again, that the police should've used another way to take him down! It doesn't matter what the police do, if someone dies, accidentally or not, there will ALWAYS be someone or a group of people who want to complain. If we didn't have police, I guarantee everyone would be complaining about how terrible life is without them. This is a never ending cycle, and a never ending bitch fest.

Allegedly? There is no allegedly. That would imply there's a possibility he didn't do it. 
There is video proof that he choked the man to death. He wouldn't have died if the cop didn't put him in the choke hold.

Okay - not American, so FWIW... The cops killed him on camera. I've been shocked that no one was even sent to trial for it.

Like, the dude wasn't threatening anyone. It was four cops with weapons against him with none. He talked back to them because he was scared out of his damn mind, as far as I can see. They just... Killed him for not immediately doing what they said. Do Americans expect that? That they'll be killed or assaulted if they don't follow orders? How does anyone live like that? How does anyone think that's okay?

Any time I've ever visited America, it was always the cops with guns who made me feel scared, less safe. Stories like this, and most of the comments here saying he should have listened, make me feel like I should just avoid the whole country until the level of crazy goes down. :/

Here's the thing. I grew up respecting cops. You do what they say as they have the power and right. Some of these issues are because people are resisting arrest. Perhaps peacefully (in this case) but none the less resisting. Once that happens the law allows cops to take the next step. WEnhave those protection laws for reasons as cops are humans too and never know who is going to assault them considering their line of work is always a dangerous one. It's an unfortuate accident, but he should have gotten down. His actions set off a chain event. And the media always tries to ignore that fact. He shouldn't have died, but he did. Doesn't make it ok he ignored the police.

Look all Ik is he was resisting arrest so the cops took him down...my dad is a retired cop and he told me that a lot of people say they can't breath so if they listened to the deranged criminals and got off of them there would be a lot more damage done and the reality of it is if you can say those words loud enough so that we can all hear it then you can breath... We all also need to remember that Eric garner was very over weight which I'm sure contributed to his death...he was doing something illegal, he resisted arrest, why are we blaming the cops for trying to arrest him and btw it was not a choke hold he grabbed his shoulder if you look at it over and over again
