You should tell them because they're too old for Santa. Not because your selfish and think its a waste of money.

I won't tell them he is real or fake. If they ask I'll tell them the truth.

I don't think there is anything wrong with a child believing in Santa. And it is most certainly not a waste of money. But once they hit a certain age, they typically learn that he isn't real on their own. And if they start doubting and ask "is Santa ACTUALLY real?" Then tell them the truth, that he isn't.

No, but I will not make the most expensive gift they receive "from Santa", either. Anything they get from Santa will be less costly, I don't like the idea that some kids get X-boxes from Santa, and some kids get a hat and mittens. It plants the idea that Santa picks and chooses, and I don't like that.

I can't wait to share the magic of Christmas with my kids. They're only young once. Where I live there is a lake cruise to the "North Pole" which is really just the other end of the lake decorated with lights, but the kids don't know that. Santa is there and he reads the kids' names off a list. I'll probably take my son next year (I'm due in March), even though he'll be too little to remember.

Well, I'm not going to lie. You teach kids that lying is bad, then when they're 7-9 (or whenever they find out Santa is fake) they see that you've been lying to them their whole lives. I walked up to my parents when I was 6 or so and calmly told them "stop lying to me because it's rude." I wasn't upset that Santa was fake, I was upset that my parents lied to me. I'd rather my kid be happy about getting awesome presents from family than from a made up mythical being.

We are not planning on doing Santa. Not to save money but because it's a lie. They will still get gifts but they will be from us instead.

When I do have kids, I'll want them to care more about family and togetherness on Christmas than free stuff. I think making it clear that the presents are from their family and weren't just dropped out of the sky will help that.
