Ovulation?

Okay this might be a crazy question but I just recently bought my opks. I get very faint lines. I obviously know those are negative. I bought them cause I was never 100% sure if I ovulate or even when. So my question is even if you don't ovulate does the opks still pick up on the LH? Or since I'm getting faint lines does it mean I do ovulate and I haven't had the surge yet? Not sure if this makes sense
