New Years drink?

Question

Did anyone have a sip of champagne or some other alcoholic beverage to celebrate the new year?? If so, would that do any damage?

No one is going to scientifically test for a "safe" amount of alcohol given there are babies involved. All that is know is that a lot of alcohol is really bad. So, the U.S. errs on the side of caution. Some European countries say a drink is fine. Every body processes alcohol differently. I doubt the occasional sip of wine or champagne is going to hurt anything (especially compared to the amount of sugar in most people's diets) but I'm staying away from the harder stuff.

I was going to have a few sips of champagne and then just didn't fancy it for a few reasons. I'm only really able to bear water and orange juice at the moment. I also just didn't think it's worth the worry! I don't think the odd glass would do any harm but I'm not so crazy about alcohol that I would need it, so why bother? Only a tiny proportion of my life will be spent pregnant. I've got some champagne from our wedding which I'm hoping to pop next New Year's Eve when staying in with baby, fingers crossed that everything continues as it should  x

There's no real scientific data as to how much alcohol is safe, that's why many are told to cut it out completely. My sister's doc said a few drinks a week are fine the whole pregnancy. My midwife says one drink a week in the 3rd trimester is probably fine. It depends on your provider and how much risk you're comfortable taking. I had a few sips of a drink last night because I feel like a tablespoon of alcohol is not a significant risk to a healthy pregnancy.

Non alcoholic stuff is all I indulged in...we had sparkling cider instead of champagne and virgin mixed drinks :) I still had a great night minus the booze who needs alcohol to have fun anyways ;). Happy New Year!

I had intended on drinking a glass of white wine for New Years but after a few sips I just stopped. I wasn't enjoying the taste of it. :(

I am not planning on any real amount of alcohol in this pregnancy (especially in the first trimester).

I do have to agree with some of the above  comments though. Compared to the sugars, artificial sweeteners, preservatives and such that are pumped into everyday food; I think having a glass of wine, a few times during the pregnancy, is the lesser of two evils.

I was in Europe during my first pregnancy and the drs said one glass of red wine was perfectly fine. But during that pregnancy and this pregnancy the smell of alcohol makes me nauseous. I had gingerale in a wine glass this year

My doc said no amount of alcohol is safe... But thats the controversy.  I just wasnt going to test it.
