Overweight. Is this a factor when TTC??

Me again.  I just thought of something.  I'm fairly overweight.  Could that be why I haven't been able to conceive??

Certainly overweight gals can get preggers! But to answer your question- research does indicate it can make it more difficult.

Everyone is different. I have underweight, over weight and medically ideal weight friends that have struggled to conceive and the same that conceived and have lots of lovely healthy children. From what I can tell it depends on the person. I'm over weight at 5 foot 6 I'm around 215 pounds and we lucky enough to conceive quickly. Awful as it sounds its I think it's luck of the draw.

Losing weight is the very first thing my ob/gyn insisted on even though I am not terribly over my ideal weight. She insists every time that I lose some weight

Everyone has an opinion, an yes it could be, but at the same time no.  Myself personally am an "obese" woman 280+. I have 4 babies and expecting my 5th.  I tend to lose weight when pregnant but my drs say that's not the norm.

It can be numerous reasons as to why it may be difficult ttc.  Don't beat yourself up...keep trying and keep positive

I got pregnant my first cycle off birth control with my first two girls. This is my third pregnancy and we weren't trying. Sometimes it could be a factor, maybe, but it seems to me like maybe the difficulty is more likely due to co-existing conditions that may come along with obesity (thyroid trouble, pcos, poor diet, etc.) Don't give up hope and don't blame yourself!

Being over weight can affect fertility. I lost 20 in preparation for TTC. Better safe than sorry, I thought. Plus, it just makes losing "baby weight" that much easier.
