Have any of you ever been discriminated against by your partners family?

My family is completely mixed but my boy's family is all white. I'm a bit nervous as to how they may react to me.

I'm as white as snow, and my SO and his family are from rural Alabama, and other than a few Britney Spears jokes they've been perfectly fine! I think they care about whether or not you're good for your partner (:

My boyfriend's family is generally quite accepting of me. Except when it comes to me "rubbing off" on him. I introduced him to R&B, and jazz, i also educate him on feminism, racism and how it affects me. Now, they get really irritated when his opinions on things (especially racism) have changed. Pretty disappointing.

My mother and grandma are rasicist Catholic Italians, my dad is in a reggae band and sells boats in the Caribbean. I could have either ended with an Italian and made my mom the happiest women in the world, or married a wealthy guy and make my dad the happiest guy ever. But instead I ended up with an amazing Catholic dark as night Jamaican. My parents were so confused at 1st, now my mom loves him, my dad wants him to help with his music, and my gradma and him go to church together more than him and I do

Yes. I'm not model material, baptist, or rich. Oh and I wasn't raised with the notion than my husband is above me and I'm supposed to be nothing but a homemaker who dolts over my husband like he's a god and has to ask permission to do anything I haven't already been approved of.

Yes, for awhile his grandparents from his mother's would make snide remarks about me and my family having Spanish/Mexican heritage. Like saying "since you're one of those people, how do you feel about immigration laws?" and his grandpa called my mom a "Maria".

It took me a year but I shut them both down hard about it and they finally accepted me.

I'm Pakistani and my husband is Indian Gujurati, our cultures are honestly almost the same but for some reason my MIL hates the fact that im I'm Pakistani and brings it up more often than necessary! She will never let go of an opportunity to point out how bad or loud or something or the other Pakistanis are. It gets super annoying and v awkward. Once we were with all of his family and I was the only Pakistani there and she went on and on and about how inconsiderate and awful Pakistanis are and it was prolly the most awkward 15 mins of my life! Funnily enough tho what she was saying had nothing to do with being Pakistani, lots of her friends and family were exactly the same! I know she's not an outright racist but honestly it's starting to get to me!

I am white and my ex was black. He was afraid to introduce me to his family for years. He said they wouldn't be happy because I was white. I did eventually meet them and everything was fine. He ended up being a jerk, but his family was nice.

My family is mixed (brothers aunts uncles and cousins have married out of our races (black)) my husband family all white his moms side of the family was welcoming and loving just like mine his dad side rasist. I must say his dad shielded me from it very well though uninvited his family that had a problem with it (at least the vocal ones) without me knowing and I'm so thankful for it now. Didn't find out till month after the wedding
