Are you a feminist?

If not, please explain. I'm genuinely curious as to why anyone who identifies as female wouldn't think that human rights and choosing the kind of life we want for ourselves (and yes, that DOES include being a SAHM/SAHW as well as working, going to school, etc.!) are good things. Is it the word itself that gets under people's skin? The negative representation in the media? Opinions of friends and family about feminism? Discuss.

I am honestly confused by the people who say no.

Feminism is the belief that women should not be treated as second class or 'lesser' simply because they're women. So does that mean that you think they should be treated as such?

I don't even know how to respond to someone who thinks that, other than to retreat to a safe distance.

Feminist is not a dirty word. It isn't a club where we go get coffee and hate on men. It is a movement, so by nature there's the occasional crazy person. But guess what - if you want a level playing field for all people of all genders, we want you on our team.

I am proud to be a feminist. I work towards equality for all marginalized groups of people, and think it's really important that I do so. For those people that don't call themselves feminists, no worries! I'm still fighting for your rights, even if you choose not to use them. The important thing is that you even have the options.

Feminist is a word that seems almost overpowering of men to me. I believe in equality, and my partner supports all I wish to do (which at the moment is to stay at home with kidlets), but I also like that he wants to take care of and provide for me and our family. In a sense feminism killed chivalry and romance in my eyes.

Feminism has been hijacked by radicles. I don't like the man shaming that is so rampant, I don't accuse people of being sexist who disagree with me (which SO MANY "feminists" do) I do not believe women are below men (especially is the US) the "stats" people quote about women wages being less than men's are entirely misleading bordering down right lies, I do not believe women are equal to men in combat because we have hygiene requirements (get that- requirements, they are not optional like men's hygiene is), and I believe any women who FALSELY accuses a man of rape should be prosecuted. Don't get me wrong- I like voting, I like working but I also think there was a time and place for feminism and it's over. Susan b  would be appalled by today's "women's rights" all of my beliefs are not in alignment with the modern feminists and I'm damn proud. I'm proud to cook dinner for my husband and make the bed but you better believe I'd be there marching with Susan B back in the day.

I think the term feminism needs to go away. It's a term to me that divides just like the racial divide. All these very specific terms cause division no more labels of any kind that will lead to division.

No, I don't consider myself to be a feminist, and never will.  Feminists these days are too radical for me, and I don't agree with many of the "issues" they're "fighting" for.... Last I checked, there isn't anything I can't do.  Women aren't poor voiceless servants, we can do anything a man can do... I just find feminists to be unnecessary in modernized countries.  
Now if I lived somewhere that women were not equals and didn't have freedom to do what they want, maybe I would be one.  But here the US, it's really not an issue anymore.

Feminism, to me, is saying that being a woman isn't good enough and I want, or rather, demand more. I am a conservative legalistic type A messianic gentile. So it just fits me to disagree with feminists. But you are no less because of your opinion, in my eyes. I love seeing people think and debate and have passion for their beliefs.

I honestly don't think you have to be a feminist to believe in equality. I have a college degree and my husband cooks and cleans. I don't believe that either of us have set roles, but I also don't think I need to be a feminist to think that way.
