TTC with slightly irregular periods?

I've been TTC for a few months now, and AF just had to show her face today. My periods aren't exactly regular, they are kinda short and iffy on days. Last month it was set off by a cold, this month it came early. Does anyone have advice for trying to conceive with a cycle like this? After this one is over I'm going to start taking ovulation tests but I need advise and reassurance.
