Should prostitution be legal?

Some people believe legalizing prostitution can decrease crime,improve public health, increase tax revenue, get prostitutes off of the street, and allow consenting adults to make their own decisions. Others think that it would cause a increase in STD's, global human trafficking and a increase in violent crime. What do you think?

In Amsterdam all prostitutes are registered. They also get tested for stds every month and have health insurance. Prostitution is going to happen either way, might as well give these women the support and protection they don't get so they are safe and don't continue to spread diseases.

I live in new zealand and it is legal here. Its much safer for all involved. As said above its gonna be done whether its legal or not. This way it means both the clients and the prostitutes are in a semi safe and monitored environment, women are tested for STDs etc, so it minimizes risks. Im not saying I agree with prostitution, but its been around for centuries, its not going anywhere so we maswel make it as safe as poss!

In Alberta, prostitution in itself isn't illegal - soliciting for prostitution however, is. silly, right?

The thing is if it was legal and you tested the girls each month what will happen when they test positive? They would be fired. Now back on the street they go. Men would still go to illegal sources because they don't want their wives and gfs to find out.
