What and when to pack for the hospital

Question

I'm a FTM with 10 weeks left ( wow, time sure flies! ).

When did you start packing your bag?
What did you pack?

I hear less is more in this situation, but I'd like to hear from people who've gone thru this.

A few additions: 
Fluffy socks (it's cold in there)
Shower shoes (shared showers, ew)
Extension cords 
Camera!
A towel (if you want one that actually goes all the way around you)
Snacks the you and hubby like
Jambox (if you want to rock out during labor)
A nipple shield (you may not need it, but if you do, it could save your breastfeeding experience)
Travel sized shampoos, soaps, toothpaste

Baby:
Little mittens
Socks
Blankets
A couple of outfits in diff sizes (nb, 0-3 months)

I'm 27 weeks and I have been collecting things here and there when I remember and tossing it into a bag. I will probably make sure mine and baby's bags are ready to go by 35 weeks just in case!

Answer

For yourself I would pack comfy clothes, loose fitting pants and comfy shirts. If you are planning to breastfeed, nursing bras and tops that easily accommodate that. They should provide you with nipple ointment if you breastfeed.  Older panties that you don't mind messing up. You will have post partum bleeding (they do provide you with these mesh undie things which hold the pad in place) if you have to have your own pillow then that.

For baby a going home outfit if you want and a few outfits of your choice (there will be hospital pics). They give you a recieving blanket but I always bring my own. Pacifiers if you plan to offer one (I never liked the hospital kind) I wouldn't worry about diapers and wipes because they provide you with all that, save yours for home.

Don't forget your makeup if you feel it's necessary, hair stuff (blow dryer, shampoo, etc) you WILL want a shower lol. Any cell phone accessories.

I'm taking less this time. I way over packed last time. I say the most important things are comfortable clothes to wear after especially easy to nurse tops and pants that can get messed up ( the nurses may have to check your pad for blood clots). Also bring your phone charger and something like books, magazines, IPad in case the labor goes long. I couldn't sleep and was stuck in bed( with epidural) just twitling my thumbs. I think I wore flip flops around and used trial sized soaps. No makeup or hair stuff, but that's just me. Just one baby outfit and not 10 like last time ;-) I did bring snacks and that was great for after the baby, sometimes hospital food sucks. I can always send the hubby out to grab whatever I need. These are just suggestions. It's all up to what makes you feel comfortable and prepared.
