I have had 2. One was 20 hrs after intercourse and one 16 hrs after. DH's sperm looked Ok the first time but not great. The second time was much better.

I do not think many docs do that these days. You are correct that they bypass it with artificial reproductive technologies (ART-IUI and IVF). If you are concerned that your mucus is inhibiting you try supplementing with B6 and FertileCM as mucus enhancers and find a doctor skilled in Natural Procreative Technology (NaPro). No doctor would take my scant CM and hormone concerns seriously until my NaPro ob. Got my pct test at 11 this morning. Nurse told us to have sex as close to midnight last night (so 11) and at 5 this morning. 
So tired haha 
Husband says he isn't as young as he used to be - haha
Every time we've have to have planned sex ttc or I've had to give myself trigger needles we just say to each other that this isn't out life and that we're in a movie and giggle and move along

It seems that most docs skip this test these days and go straight to IUI.
