Did you regret not having a baby shower?

I have no interest in a baby shower. For a few reasons, im not a fan of parties that revolve around myself. I have family, work friends, friends and acquaintances that would expect to come but i know i wouldn't want half of them there and really cant be bothered with dealing with pleasing everyone. Ive already had people i haven't seen in person for 12 months say "i cant wait for the shower!!". But ultimately i just feel no desire for it. Having something simple with my small family would be ok. Basically i want to know if anyone regretted not having one?

I totally get that. I hate big gatherings and having to please people i dont even want there in the first place. However, i feel i'd like to celebrate my pregnancy with my closest friends and family, since it's such a special time. Dont feel pressured to invite people from all over the place. Have a little gathering with a few special people and enjoy their kind thoughts and love for you and your baby.

Consider having one after your baby is born that way all the attention is on your baby and everyone gets to meet him/her. Up until two years ago we could not find out the gender in my area so everyone held baby showers after the baby was born. I think it's better that way as you don't need much in the early days anyways and then you know what you do need. We held ours for my first two weeks after he was born.

I had one thrown for me with DD. They had to FORCE me to sit down and open the presents in front of everyone. I. Cannot. Stand. That. This is my second and I'd be perfectly happy to avoid that this time around.

It was a lovely time though, and I did very much appreciate it - it's just not necessary this time.

I completely understand where you are coming from. I hate being the center of attention.  Also I have horrible social anxiety and cannot take my meds during pregnancy. I have actually been more worried that nobody will offer to throw one. Now that my friends are throwing it, I am concerned that nobody will come. Ugh anxiety. This is my first baby and I absolutely need the shower to prepare. Maybe you can still have yours. Just glaze over, smile, and let them touch your belly.

If you do decide to have one, maybe not in your own home. That way you can leave and others can stay and enjoy the cupcakes etc. 
How does your SO feel about it? I'm introverted and not fond of being in spotlight. He's a popular, social extrovert so it was a big deal to him to share the excitement of our first baby.

I feel exactly how you do about parties and myself. My best friend reeeeeally wanted to throw me a shower so I'm having one with 5 people. That's it. Not even inviting anyone else. My mom isn't even coming (but my step mom is) I'm looking forward to it actually!

Yes! Do it! You can use all you get! It tough starting out with a baby. Sucks when you just don't wanna deal with people. Just make it a small one, few hours long! You will be glad u did!!

The way I see it, it's a way to celebrate your baby, not yourself. I don't like to be the center of attention either but I do love getting together with those who care about me to have a little fun. It's up to you of course, but I think inviting close friends and family to catch up and celebrate new life would be a good way to prepare for being a new mommy. You might regret not having one because it is your first child and I feel like you won't get that experience back. Just invite those who are close to you that you don't mind spending a couple hours with. Also, babies are expensive and a lot of work, take any advice or help you can. After all, once that beautiful baby is born, it's not about us anymore. Congrats 😊
