Shaving?

Okay, so I am getting married in a few months, and both my fiancé and I are virgins. So I have been trying to figure out how to shave my area, but the problem is that I have super curly hair which makes me extremely prone to ingrown hairs. I get them every week in my armpits. Do you have any tips? I have trimmed and then used shaving cream, and I shave downwards. However I still get the ingrown hairs and razor bumps.... Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I should do??
