Is it common for a long distance relationship to work? And what are the chances?

This isn't a one size fits all answer. It depends on a lot. How old/mature you are. How established you are where you live. How willing you are to move for the other person. How dedicated you are to making sure you see each every 6ish months or so.

I was in a long distance relationship with my husband for 3 years, and we have been married for 2 and a half. It worked for us, but we always planned that I would move to Canada to be with him and we always had our next meeting planned. We were also fairly mature and realistic.

In an ldr, the distance isn't the biggest problem. The biggest problem is how you deal with problems and coping when you're actually around each other. Each time one of you visits, its like taking a crash course in every flaw and annoying tendency each of you have. A lot of expectations are crushed and you've got to know how to overcome disappointment. You also really have to trust each other. This was never an issue for us but it can be for some others.

If you're not willing to move, or you and the person can't figure out concrete dates where you will see each other, its sure as hell not going work.

But yes, they can work. And sometimes they do. But its rare.

I've been in multiple long distance relationships, and honestly the transition from long distance to local or living together is WAY harder than the distance is. After so much time spent apart, romanticizing everything, emotions get heightened and fast tracked. It tends to extend the honeymoon period so that when you do finally live near or with each other, you're oblivious to a lot of the red flags that things aren't working out.

Yes, they can be wonderful, fulfilling relationships, but honest communication is a must from both partners. Which means you have to be honest with yourself, first!

Don't listen to this negativity ! My long distance relationship has been my most successful relationship ! The deepest feelings! More anticipation ! Fine, you may feel lonely when you and your s/o haven't spent time in a while, some days I could kill for just a hug or a cuddle. But the wait is worth it 😍

Me and my now husband have done it. Both military, I was stationed in Spain and him in Virginia. It's not easy, especially with separate deployments, but it can be done if you truly love a person.  Now we live together, so it's a lot easier.

I'm suppose im in what can be considered a "long distance relationship." I live in London, England. I'm from one side of London, and my boyfriend lives on the completely opposite side of London (bare in mind London is a HUGE place) We've been together almost 4 years and we couldn't be happier. I'm 20 and he's 21, and we only get to spend weekends together as he works full time, and I am a full time student. We're now working on getting our own home together somewhere in between both our current houses. It all depends on how serious you are about each other. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't. But don't let anyone's negative stories scare you, you know your relationship better than anyone x

Depends  how much patience and love pit into that relationship. But mine worked so its possible.
