Cat liter

Lisa • 36 years old, first time mom after 7 years ttc, baby boy Colton born Aug. 23rd 👶. Lost 2nd baby at 7 weeks.
My dr says not to change the cat liter. I've heard of friends who cleaned cat liter pregnant with no problems. I live alone and was told to use gloves and wear a mask. What does everyone else's dr say about this?

If your car is an indoor kitty, just take the gloves and mask precautions. It'll be fine. Taxo comes from cats who eat birds and bunnies.

I think it's taxo. I get mixed up with the one from deli meats. Ah well.

It can contain listeriosis (can't spell) which can cause a miscarriage. Absolutely be protected. It's a simple thing to keep yourself safe.

I work at a vet clinic and wouldn't take the chance! If you have to do it I would make sure to wear a mask and gloves to be extra safe!! Not worth the risk!!

The concern comes from the parasites that can grow in the cat's feces can potentially cause lots of problems for a pregnant woman, but it also takes 5-7 days for them to grow. So unless you are changing the kitty litter box on less than a weeklyBasis without gloves (eww) then there really isn't much to worry about. It's always better to be on the safe side though.

Ok thanks. My cat hasn't gone outside in 3 years. And he doesn't eat mice.
