How many tests to do you take?

When TTC, when do you start testing? I swear some women on here are testing from the day they ovulate until AF comes, multiple times a day. No judgement, I just couldn't spend that much money on pee sticks, even if they were the $1 ones.
So, do you test every day or multiple times a day until AF shows up? Or do you wait and take one after AF is late?
