Does This Make Me A Bad Person ??

Question

So , I don't want a certain person in my family carrying or touching my baby when she's born 
& the other day I told her so I could let it be known and she got so butt hurt she almost cried and she went to tell other family members what I had said . I'm sorry but It's MY baby , & I feel like I have the right to decide who I want around my baby and who I don't . It's not like I don't want her around my baby I simply just don't want her to hold her , kiss her , or touch her . She insists that she wants to be in the delivery room with me and I definatley don't want her there either .

Is this a sister or your mother or cousin? I understand the not wanting someone in the delivery suite but why don't you want them to hold your baby? I'm sure you have your reasons I'm just curious

I understand it and I am sure there is a reason for it.  I personally do not want my mother in around but I have to put my feelings aside so I don't cause problems with my husband.  Doesn't make you's bad person but make sure that you aren't hurting others that you love in the process

I'm not sure of your reason but I don't think it makes you a bad person. I have a similar issue.... I don't want some of my family members watching my child. My father-in-law drink way to much way to often, my mother-in-law will have a smoke in one hand with the baby in the other in a small non-vented room, my mother is a druggie that's in and out of prison and my step mom is just mean and oblivious to everything..... My dad is the only one out of my parents/in-laws that I would trust my little guy with.

What's the reason behind it? I mean if someone told me that i would be hurt too, especially if it was just because of a personal issue with me. I can see if it's something about your child's health or safety. I mean you aren't clear on your reason why so I can't say yes or no. If it's just because you don't like this family member well that's wrong to use your child as a pawn

You could probably could have told her in a more tactful way that didn't hurt her feelings or make her feel so singled out. However, I think you are totally within your right as a mother to choose who can or cannot hold your baby regardless of the reasons you may have. Perhaps if you explained these reasons to her she might not feel so offended or singled out. Are you planning on excluding her from the baby's life completely or you just don't want her holding the baby so soon after its born?

I don't think it makes you a bad person. I feel the same about my husbands grandmother, only because she is always sick and she has Parkinson's and it makes me nervous that she will drop my baby if she holds him because she gets pretty shaky sometimes. It's your baby, you have the right to choose!

I understand. I have a few in laws with no boundaries and are pretty careless so I'm not comfortable with them handling my baby. I had to tell the mother in law the other day that she cannot come into the delivery room or be waiting outside - she can come when we're ready to see people. She was previously insisting she'd be in the delivery room with us! She means well and thinks she's helping but doesn't understand boundaries :(

My in-laws are monsters. I can't stand them. Any time they are around my son, I go into momma bear mode. I don't want them around him or my new baby but I have to keep the peace with my husband. I just grit my teeth and try to keep my mouth shut.

I'm the same way not only with some family members but also with some acquaintance .. You have all right to pick & choose who you want around or touching your child especially when they are newborns ..
