Turning a breech baby @ 38 weeks. Is this possible?

At last week's prenatal appointment, doctor assured me baby was head down and engaged. Suddenly this week the baby is breech sideways on the ultrasound. Is there any hope it can be turned before labor so late in the game?

Yoga poses - cat cow and downward facing dog can provide the space baby needs to turn. Rebozo method is also effective and shouldn't put baby in any distress - it's used all over Latin America. All you need is a large scarf and some help from your partner or doula. Acupuncture can help as well. Also I have heard about using ice packs to get baby to move. Getting dad to talk to the baby and as he's talking move his head down so that baby follows his voice down. Finally it may sound hokey but try visualization and visualizing where you want the baby to go and talk to your baby and try to get them to move there - it's worked for some people. Your doc or midwife can do an aversion procedure to get baby to move but this procedure can be pretty uncomfortable with them digging into your belly with their hands and if baby doesn't want to move they may just flip back afterwards so it's not guaranteed to be a permanent solution to a breech baby. The other options are a bit less aggressive and allow for the baby to choose whether they want to move or not by basically giving them the space they need to move. Goodluck!

Update: after an acupuncture session, went to get another ultrasound and lo and behold! Baby is in cephalic position....only to turn transverse right before our eyes! Then again to cephalic...then out he went again!!! The little acrobat @ 38+ weeks! Turns out I still have plenty of amniotic fluid for him to swim in.

I've heard from several people that turning the baby can really stress them out- one friends baby had to be in the Nicu because the stress caused her to release meconium and ended up with it in her lungs. Another had to be induced early because the cord got wrapped around baby's neck. However several have had good luck with acupuncture. I've got a breech baby and I'm just trying to accept that a C section might be the safest option.

My midwife told me that if a baby needed to be turned that late in pregnancy they do it while getting an ultrasound so baby doesn't tangle on cord- also where they can take u to theatre if needed.

I used a frozen bag of corn to turn my baby from sideways to head down. You lay on your back with hip elevated and put the frozen bag on the babies butt and he moved since he didn't like a cold butt. I was told this by my yoga instructor who was also a doula. My baby did turn head down but flipped back sideways 2 days later. The next week I fell( accidentally, not recommended) and that turned the baby head down again and there he stayed. My ob/gyn told me that if a baby is sideways it could be because my pelvis is too small and it's not comfortable for the baby. I should have listened to my baby. He was head down so I tried 26 hours of labor, an allergic reaction to the epidural that all ended up in the c section that I had tried so hard to avoid. My pelvis was too small and I could not progress past stage 0. So sometimes babies are sideways for a reason, I would have saved myself so much pain and frustration if I had just left my baby sideways.

Yes! Go see a chiropractor, there is a certain thing they can do that will make baby turn. I have heard it is a little uncomfortable but that it works.
