What no one told me HCG shot

Question

So I have been trying for months to be able to have an IUI just waiting on my right side to ovulate. the whole te they have told me if I see that smiley face before my appointment to come in because it's time to do the IUI. I finally did have my right Ovary Ovulate this week and I was given the HCG shot to take last night at 10 am with a IUI scheduled for Sat morning. So this morning I wake up and I get the smiley face. I tell my husband he can't go to work because it's time. We get ready and drive to the next town where my RE is located. I go in, they have me pee in a cup then I mention the HCG shot and that LAUGH! A Dr and the nurse, not in a mean way but still. Turns out the HCG shot will GIVE YOU A DAMN FALSE POSSITIVE and no one bothered to mention this to me when they gave me the shot. My husband has now missed half a day of work since he has to drive several hours to get to work and by the time the Clinic opened he should have already been at the office for half an hour. Not mad about it I just feel stupid and I hate feeling stupid. I didn't want anyone else to go through that so I figured I would get that info out and vent all at once. I do want to say again they weren't mean at all just amused that I was unaware.

Seems like there are a lot of things fertility clinics just assume you know. They ask if you have questions but I don't what to ask because I don't know whats coming. My first medicated cycle was full of surprises. Apparently I was supposed to 'just know' to schedule bloodwork to see if I ovulated,  and then 'just know' to stop my progesterone when I got my negative pregnancy test and other things like that. Sorry you had to go through all of that. It seriously makes this whole process more stressful than it needs to be.  Good luck!

I don't understand. The clinic should have known you had an HCG shot and known you'd have a false positive on a pregnancy test. They also should have know. That the shot should give you a real positive on the LH test so I'm wondering why they turned you away. Sounds they they are the ones who don't know what's going on as opposed to make you feel stupid. I'd call them and ask what actually happened. I have a great doctor at my clinic but I saw a different one for my first cycle ultrasound and she zipped through everything and didn't even tell me how to do the HCG shot so I know some of them can be a but assuming. If you can, maybe see a different doctor or nurse and the clinic if you think that might make you feel for comfortable.

That sucks. It will also give you a positive HPT until it is out of your system too...usually about a week

It can actually give you a false positive even 10 days PO, so wait 2 weeks and take blood test, not urine one

I'm confused too, if you were doing a trigger shot then you shouldn't have been doing OPK's because they would know exactly when you ovulate, hence they would know when to do IUI.
