You do. I'm TTC and got off the Pill about 3 weeks ago I had withdrawal bleeding for a few days. Now I'm a week late and took a test but it was negative. I've read it takes time for periods to return to normal after being off the pill

No women on the pill do not ovulate so they do not get a period. What happens is the pill makes your body think it's pregnant, with all the hormones, so it doesn't release another egg. When you have a 7 day break/take the sugar tablets you experience a "withdrawal" type bleed, because there's no more hormones keeping the extra lining of your uterus there, which would nourish a baby. If you go longer than the 7 days not taking the pill, then you CAN ovulate. My understanding is that the pill instructions say you are still protected against pregnancy during those 7 days of taking sugar tablets because it takes more than 7 days to ovulate (women generally ovulate (release an egg) around the 14th day of their cycle). This is also why you are more likely to get pregnant at the beginning or the end of your pack if you miss a pill, because you're extending the time period you do not have hormones in your body to stop an egg from being released. Remember you need to have taken 7 pills on consecutive days in order to be protected against pregnancy. 
I know this information because I was studying midwifery and have been on the pill for 8 years.
