Certain people (like myself, that I learned the hard way) can develop blood clots because of the hormones etc
If you're a smoker or over 35... Or have a certain gene mutation
I ended up with a pulmonary embolism and had emergency surgery all because I had an injury while on the pill

Birth control can be used for shortening, regulate or stop periods, help with acne and cramps. But its known for preventing pregnancy.
