Ring or No Ring???

My daughters father and I were engaged 4 years ago. He called off the engagement when I got pregnant. We have been back together now for 8 months. I want a ring to wear but he says it's not on the plans. He says he loves me but it's not on the plans. We don't plan on marrying just living together being a family raising our daughter but I would like I ring to remind me of our love n being a family. Valentine's and our Anniversary is this month. So what should I do??

I really think you should consider leaving this person.  I understand wanting to be a family for your child but she's going to look to you and the relationships you choose as to what kind she should be in when she's older. Would you really want her in the same situation?  Don't waste your life with someone that doesn't want to marry you. When you could find someone that would love nothing more than to be your husband.

Why was he okay with getting married before you had a child together and now doesn't want to get married? That seems like an unusual change. And don't both of your "plans" matter? Just because it's not in his plan doesn't mean you have to settle and change your own plan.

Why would you get a ring if you both don't want to be engaged or married? Doesn't really make sense. It seems you're trying to make it seem like something it's not.

I think that you should let him know the only reason you want a ring is for others to know you are commited and taken, not because you expect him to marry you. I don't know him so I don't really know what kind of a guy he is but if he is the type to get angry or upset about things like that I would say just leave it be.

Seems like a difficult situation. But you two seem on completely different pages. If he is only with you because you have a daughter that isn't him loving you it appears to be misguided love for his child. As hard as it may be, you may have to let him go and agree to be coparents that raise your child and respect each other. If either if you feel trapped or unhappy it will breed resentment that can fester. Allowing love into your lives will only make you better parents. My parents split up and I have etched them date and eventually marry others. No one will ever replace you as mommy. At best additional people will love you and your child. Good luck.

Don't be with someone who doesn't want the same things as you. You could find someone who WANTS to put a ring on your finger. My exboyfriend and I broke up for almost the same reason, but a little different situation because we don't have kids nor are living together.

There's not only promise rings, but also family rings. Birthstones for both parents and the child. They're sweet and you might want to suggest that. Walmart keeps special "momentous jewelry" booklets at their jewelry counter. You could even pick it out as a family. My daughter helped me with ours!
